J.C. Calderón was invited to design the outdoor theater for Camp Rising Sun, a retreat for creative young people in Rhinebeck, New York. The design features two stages with three levels, four progressively larger trusses and an organically-inspired roof. The roof overhangs are designed to minimize wind pressure and to allow sunlight to reach the audience while preventing direct sunlight from interfering with the performance below. The walls create a backstage area for the actors, as well as provide acoustical assistance.
