Having worked with leading New York City firms including Kohn Pedersen Fox; Tesoro Architects; Calvin Klein; and Simmons Architects, J.C. currently practices out of Beacon, in New York's historic Hudson Valley.
Commissions are accepted from clients in New York City and throughout the Hudson Valley. Having a certified Minority-owned Business Enterprise, J.C. is uniquely qualified to partner on city and government projects within the city and state.
The scope of his work ranges from the design of high-concept buildings to the alteration of existing structures and includes residences as well as hotels and office developments. A featured project was in his parents’ birthplace of Bogotá, Colombia.
In addition to delivering creative design and drawing prowess, Calderón Architecture & Design is highly skilled at procuring approvals and construction permits from the NYC Department of Buildings.
J.C. has guest lectured at a Yale seminar taught by architect Dean Sakamoto. He has also appeared on television, in numerous articles, and on public panels to speak about design, urban culture, and green practices.
At Calderón Architecture & Design we strive to deliver great architecture. Our structures are designed to capture the nuances of the physical setting. We aim not only at the creation of a beautiful and inspiring building, but one that doesn’t leave out practicality or comfort.
At the end of the day it is important to us that clients are happy. To that end, we stress collaboration between client and architect. We find it gratifying that our clients often refer us to friends and associates–it gives meaning to our work. The environments we create should enhance the lives of people who will be living and working in them for years to come.
While asking about the future you envision, our practice will, on one hand, bring to the table a certain cultivated aesthetic, while on the other hand avoiding preconceived ideas until we’ve consulted with you.
Our depth of practical experience provides the background to head off problems and spot hidden potential. In particular, we excel at finding natural light by adding windows or re-configuring inner walls. In the instance of a co-op apartment, we will advise you about the best ways of working with the co-op board to this end.
With regard to contractors, you can elect anything from zero involvement on our part, to complete scheduling and supervision. Either way, we’ll inspect the final result to make certain you’re happy.
